Inside a Style Consultation

Quite often, my style clients will have already been to see me for their colour analysis, and so we have already built a relationship, that said, there can still be a certain amount of trepidation; after all, you're putting your body into my hands. So this month, I wanted to take the time to explain what to expect from a Style Consultation, and to put your mind at ease, because these sessions are fun, informative and confidence-building.

You will be set a small amount of homework before you arrive for your session, a short questionnaire which helps to determine your current wardrobe or style issues. You will be asked to bring a selection of your own clothes from your wardrobe; some that you love, and others that you don't (but may not necessarily know why).

When you arrive for your 2 hour session, I will take the time to find out more about you. This time is important as it sets the scene for the rest of the session. You'll be asked about your lifestyle and what you would like to achieve from our time together. You will then complete a questionnaire to determine your Style Personality. This is important as your style has a personality, and your personality gives you your style. It enables me to understand who you are.

Then we will discuss your body shape and learn how to make the most of your good features, and how to take attention away from the features you don’t like. Don't worry there is no tape measure involved, nor a lot of touching, prodding or poking! Just us looking at your bodyshape together so that you can see what I can see. It is also important that you understand your proportions, this will enable you to combine clothes that appear to adjust any imbalances and give the illusion of perfect proportions.

We will discuss your best styles of clothing, what to look for in prints and how different fabric cuts work on your body shape. We will use the clothes that you've brought along as well as a rail of clothes from my wardrobe to illustrate what we are discussing.

Accessories are key to completing your look and a great way to introduce colour to your outfits, so we also spend some time discussing scarves, footwear, jewellery and bags.

All of my advice will be tailored to your own style personality, lifestyle and of course budget.

In summary I will show you how to:

  • select the most flattering styles and fabrics for your body shape

  • emphasise what you like about your body and disguise what you don't

  • achieve a perfect fit every time when buying clothes

  • express your personality through your wardrobe

  • avoid shopping disasters

  • develop a coordinated wardrobe so you get maximum usage from it

  • dress with confidence, whatever the occasion

  • reduce time and frustration looking for the perfect outfit

There is a lot to take in, but the good news is, that you don't need to remember everything, as we write it all down in your personal style guide. This is a detailed record of your visit and a guide that you can use straight away and for many years to come.
